There is more history in the Resorts Casino Atlantic City hotel Atlantic City resort than any of the other big resort hotels in Atlantic City. This is because the Resorts Casino Atlantic City was built using the structure of two of the original historic hotels in AC, the Chalfonte House Hotel and the Haddon Hall Hotel across the street from it.

The Chalfonte House Hotel and Haddon Hall Hotel upon which the Resorts Casino Atlantic City are based had a hey day in the 1920s, and appropriately, the theme of the Resorts Casino Hotel is the roaring twenties era, evocative of the era of its predecessors. First came the Chalfonte House and subsequently the Haddon Hall was built (by the family who also founded the city of Haddonfield, New Jersey). By the 1970s the hotel was known as the Chalfonte-Haddon Hall hotel.

After casino gambling was legalized in New Jersey, Resorts International set out to convert the old structures to a modern resort hotel. They closed the old Chalfonte building as the rooms lacked size to meet standards, and the total number of rooms in were reduced from over 1000 to about 560 in the renovation. Finally in 1978, the new Resorts International Casino opened to much fanfare as the first of the modern casino hotel resorts in Atlantic City.

Starting in 2010, the hotel was re-branded as the Resorts Casino Atlantic City and the Roaring Twenties theme emphasized. The resort has two towers – the Ocean Tower, which is the old Haddon Hall Hotel tower. The Ocean Tower has 480 rooms. The Rendezvous Tower was completed in 2004 with an art deco architectural theme. In all, the Resorts Casino Atlantic City has 940 rooms.
